Past Week in Palomar Sports 3/9-3/16

Womens Track and Field

On Saturday, the women of Palomar’s track and field team competed in the UC San Diego Collegiate Challenge in La Jolla. Going up against 4-year schools the team placed 7 out of 9 squads.

Palomar’s Deandra Young finished third individually in the hammer throw contest with a distance of 144 ft. Simone Evans finished fifth in the same event. In the 5k meter race Palomar’s two Jessica’s finished seventh and tenth respectively with times of 18:31 & 22:46.

Palomar’s next meet is on Friday, March 27 in the San Diego Aztec invite.

 Swimming

The Comets swim team felt very comfortable in the pool this past week as they started their PCAC campaign against Southwestern on Friday, March 13. The women’s team won 128-82 in their team matchup while the men won 172-86 in theirs.

Winners for the mens team were: Ryan Smethurst (1ooo freestyle), Andy Houston (100 backstroke), Joe Cain (50 freestyle), Ryan McCauley (100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly), Hayden McCauley (500 freestyle), Rich Farley (200/100 freestyle), Corey Meyers (200 breaststroke)

On the womens side: Chelsea Sommer (100 backstroke, 200 individual medley) Kendyl Mundt (200 butterfly, 100 freestyle), Lucy Gates (200 breaststroke), Kelly Harris (200 freestyle), Paulina Dehaan (100 butterfly), Andrea Fairbanks (200 backstroke)

Palomar next swims on Friday, March 20 at home vs. Mesa College
