SOFTBALL
It was a perfect week (in many ways) for Comets softball as the No. 4 ranked team in the state picked up two more wins in their 2015 campaign. On Wednesday, a combined perfect-game pitching performance from freshman pitchers Summer Evans and Maci Lerno led the way against Imperial Valley College. Kali Pugh and KK Fonda continued their dominant seasons at the dish, providing 6 of the Comets’ 8 runs in the 5-inning, mercy-rule game.
On Friday, it was more of the same as the Comets dispatched Long Beach College 11-3 after 5 innings of play. Scoring 4 in the second, 3 in the third, and 4 in the fifth on 9 hits, center fielder KK Fonda and shortstop Kali Pugh hit a pair of home runs to lead the way. Catcher Leah Gordon’s 3-3, 3 run, 3 RBI performance also helped the Comet’s to their tenth consecutive win.
Palomar will go for their eleventh straight at home next Wednesday, March 4 against San Diego City College (5-10).
