Shannon Mueller holds an MA in Performance Psychology, a BFA in Dance Performance, a Minor in Integrated Educational Studies, and is a certified PBT instructor. She is formally trained in ballet, jazz, modern, and tap. Her outstanding performance credits include original works of Merce Cunningham, the LA Tap Festival, and excerpts of Memphis and That’s Entertainment! She is currently a freelance choreographer, a professor of dance at three colleges, and teaches at two dance studios around San Diego County. Shannon values professional development and continues to participate in programs such as intensives with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and dance science courses from NDEO.
Shannon’s choreography has been seen internationally and worldwide. She was selected as one of Regional Dance America’s Emerging Choreographers to attend their annual RDA Craft of Choreography Conference directed by Janis Brenner. She was also selected to set an original piece at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland for their annual showcase, “The Exhibition.” Shannon has choreographed for a variety of theatre companies, including Encore Youth Theatre, Oceanside Theater Company, and Patio Playhouse. She worked on several short films, including the Pariodocks Films’ award-winning “Alison and Jeremy,” and has presented her own short films at Mobile Dance Film Festival in New York City, ADF’s Movies by Movers in North Carolina, and Versatility Dance Festival in Colorado. Shannon’s concert dance choreography was selected and presented at the MixMatch Dance Festival in Santa Monica, the Young Choreographer’s Festival in New York City, the San Diego International Fringe Festival, and the NDEO Conference. Additionally, her work has won numerous accolades, including “Best Choreography” at the SoCal Dance Festival in 2025. Currently, Shannon’s choreography has been regularly presented at MiraCosta College, Palomar College, and Southwestern College. Shannon’s passion is not only choreographing pieces that connect with audiences but also teaching the art of dance and helping students achieve their goals.
