Lisa Friedrichs HeadshotLisa Friedrichs retired in 2023 after 29 years of teaching in Poway Unified School District, all of them as the choir director at Rancho Bernardo High School. Before coming to the district she directed the choir at Rancho Buena Vista High School for two years.

She earned her Bachelors of Music in vocal performance from San Diego State University and a master’s in choral conducting from California State University, Los Angeles. During her career, Friedrichs received numerous awards at RB High. They included three “Certificates of Honor” from the administration and her peers for “Outstanding Service to Students,” being the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars “Teacher of the Year” for the State of California in 2022, and three Crystal Apple Awards given by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for “Excellence in Education.”

“I have loved choral music since I was in choir in junior high school in Orange County,” Friedrichs said. “I have also loved to sing since I was a child. To me, music is the universal language and no one should be without music.”

“I am grateful for all the lives that music making has touched, and grateful for the numerous experiences that I have been able to share with my students,”
