Comets Trhac and Bryant heat up center court

It was a blustery day for tennis at Palomar’s home courts on March 29 when the Comets took on Imperial Valley College.

Comets Adam Lippert, Dorian Blanchard, Dean Vo, and Abraham Alex all came away with victories in straight sets while co-captains Peter Trhac and Taylor Bryant both came away with victories on the center courts.

In doubles play, co-captains Trhac and Bryant the current top PCAC doubles pair, went up against Imperial Valley’s Charles Stephens, who was able to return after an earlier injury, and Mario Figueroa, a pairing Trhac and Bryant had previously lost to.

“We shouldn’t have lost that match,” Trhac said. “Definitely expecting to come out with a win today.”

The match did not disappoint as Trhac and Bryant claimed a dramatic 8-6 victory, capturing match point on a powerful overhand delivered from Bryant.

Trhac and Bryant will now head into the postseason as the top overall seed for doubles pairs in the PCAC.

“We’re just both goofballs,” Trhac said when asked what make’s Bryant and himself such a good pair. “We just both bring the best out of each other.”

“I play a little bit more conservative and Pete plays more aggressive and so Pete relies on me to get the ball back and I rely on Pete to close out the points.” Bryant said.

“Pete sets me up every time, it’s a one-two punch you know Pete hits him with the first left hook and I hit them with the right hook,” Bryant said. “It’s the one-two punch that get’s us through the tough points and the crucial points,” he added.

Trhac, a freshman out of Del Norte high school, will head into the postseason play as the top overall seed after finishing undefeated in PCAC singles play with a 10-0 record and a 15-1 record overall.

The Comet’s began postseason tournament play April 7 at Southwestern College.
