The team’s season started earlier this month with their first game against Cerritos college where they lost 21-12. Palomar played against Citrus and the SDSU club team so far, winning 16-12 against Citrus and 17-8 against SDSU club.
Their winning streak was broken when they lost against Merced 18-14. After last year’s season and the arrival of Coach Mulvey, expectations are higher than ever for the new coach and the team.
“Last season was my first year at Palomar, and it was a lot of fun,” Coach Mulvey said. “The support from the alumni and administration really was excellent as I learned the ropes.”
He added, “I’m incredibly grateful to the athletes who came out last year. They put in an incredible amount of effort to improve, and I think they ignited a spark in our program that’s starting to catch fire now. This season new players seem to be making the biggest impact”.
One of those players is Arleigh Williams, who was named Athlete of the Week after his role in the latest game.
When asked about his expectations for this season Coach Mulvey said: “My expectations for my players really haven’t changed from last year. I expect everyone to put in one hundred percent effort to be successful, build each other up and enjoy every moment of playing as brothers.”
He added that Miramar and Citrus are great programs. “I look forward to the learning opportunities these games will bring for our guys.”
The team won both mini tournaments at home last Saturday against San Diego Miramar and Citrus, beating San Diego 27-9 and Citrus 14-7.
