Family vacations, picking up extra hours and resting their minds are some of the things that students look forward to during the holiday break at Palomar.
Others said recently that they take the time to prepare for the next semester.
When asked about what his plans are for winter break, student Raymond Munoz said, “I plan to take a trip down to Mexico with my family. We usually get together and go out to the desert for a big family party.”
Palomar’s Fall semester ends Dec. 19 and resumes Jan. 12. Many students seem to get into relaxation mode for the four weeks free from exams, essays and studying. There is a novelty in sleeping until noon and doing things on a whim.
Student Albert Avila said he plans to take a trip with family up to Glamis, the Imperial Sand Dunes located in the southeast corner of California.
“We go out to the dunes to ride motorcycles and quads,” Avila said. “It gets pretty cold, but it is a great escape from the day-to-day normalcy of life.” Later during the break, he said he intends to take another trip up to Big Bear with cousins and friends.
Some want to lounge around town and others, like Avila, want to get active and do things that are not normally available during the school year. No matter the activity, students enjoy the temporary pause from coffee-driven study sessions and the dash to classes.

Old Town hosts a two-day celebration, the 63rd Annual Las Posadas re-enactment, of richly decorated museums, historic homes, stores and restaurants on December 13th and 14th.
The Annual Port of San Diego Parade of Lights, held December 14th and 21st, host over 100 private boats with decorated lights for the holiday. The theme for this year is children’s stories.
For those who need a mini getaway, the town of Julian is known for its hot apple cider and the legendary homemade apple pie. There is something for everyone this winter and of course the Annual Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve is a must watch to bring in the new year.
