JOUR 101 News Writing and Reporting (3 units) NO TEXTBOOK COSTS!
Principles of basic journalism. Development of news judgment and clear writing
skills. Evaluation of news reporting techniques and sources, and ethical and legal
considerations. Emphasis on practical application for newspaper journalism.
JOUR 105, 205, 210, 215: Newspaper Production (4-course series, 3 units each) NO TEXTBOOK COSTS!
Students begin with Journalism 105. They can take two years of this course to work their way up the campus newspaper and magazine chain. They begin as writers and become editors. In the course, they will learn to research, report, write, design, and produce multimedia projects for the campus newspaper, magazine and their websites.
CE 150: Telescope Internship (2 units) NO TEXTBOOK COSTS!
This is an internship class that allows student to write for the campus newspaper, magazine and websites from the comfort of their own homes. There is one orientation but the rest of the work can be done online. Students are required to complete eight assignments during the semester.
JOUR 130: Writing for Online Journalism (3 units) Low-cost Textbook
Introduction to multimedia storytelling with a journalism emphasis. Techniques explored include use of video, photos, audio, animation, and text to convey interactive news and feature stories through the Internet and other electronic media. Also includes techniques in digital research, critical thinking, and synthesis.
Jour 200: Mastering Social Media (3 units)
(Transfers to San Diego State and is part of new Social Media Certificate)
This course will explore Social Media from a content perspective. Students will learn the fundamentals of social media, the theories behind writing for social media, as well as the ethics and standards of information generated from social media. It will also explore how to use social media to get content to the masses.
