San Marcos, CA – Palomar College serves more than 29,000 students each academic year.  With over 250 degrees to choose from the College is responsive to the educational needs of students seeking transfer to a 4-year institution, while also supporting the region’s workforce through career and technical training programs in high demand fields.

It isn’t too late for students to register for the fall semester that starts on August 25.  Registration remains open for hundreds of courses in general education subjects and a variety of fields including accounting, welding, business, auto technology, performing arts, law, and computer science and technology, to name only a few.  Courses are offered onsite, online and in a hybrid format. Students can find open classes at the Palomar class finder webpage.  The College also offers 4-week and 8-week sessions during the standard 16-week semester.  These shorter sessions are designed to help students finish their degree or certificate faster.

“The start of a new academic year is always exciting.  We have something for everyone at Palomar College,” said Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey, Superintendent/President of Palomar College.  “The vast majority of our students work while pursuing their educational goals and our approach to scheduling courses and support services is responsive to students with busy lifestyles and commitments to work and family.”

Palomar College offers a number of ways for students to get assistance with registration and planning their educational path.  Students can meet with counselors in-person, by Zoom or phone.  In-person appointments are held at the main campus in San Marcos and at the Escondido, Fallbrook, and Rancho Bernardo education centers.  The schedule of appointments is available at the Counseling department website.

Each academic year provides an opportunity to establish new academic and career training programs. An innovative Pathway to Law Certificate of Achievement will launch this fall. It is designed to prepare aspiring legal professionals with the foundational knowledge and skills essential for law school success. The comprehensive program develops students’ ability to construct compelling written and oral arguments, analyze legal scenarios and apply legal principles, and understand the structure of U.S. federal government and sources of law. By completing this certificate, students position themselves as well-prepared candidates for law school admissions and demonstrate their commitment to legal studies.

Also starting this fall, is a noncredit Adult Education Workforce Preparation program in partnership with TERi Campus of Life, a nonprofit organization that serves children and adults with disabilities, their families, and the community.  The noncredit educational program is designed to help students develop foundational skills for greater independence at home, in the community, and workplace through six required courses that focus on goal setting, communication, and problem-solving. Students completing the program will receive a Pre-Vocational Certificate of Completion and will have an opportunity to work as interns at Palomar College.

For students interested in a career in the glass arts industry, a new Glass Arts Certificate of Achievement program will also start this fall.  The program provides comprehensive training in glassblowing techniques, studio operations, and both contemporary and historical glass art production methods. Students will develop essential professional skills including mastery of hot glass production processes, team coordination, and specialized vocabulary, while also learning to create professional portfolios with properly lit and organized artwork images. This program equips graduates with both the technical artistry and business acumen needed to produce and promote their work in the commercial glass arts market.
