SAN MARCOS (February 11, 2014) Gate proceeds from Palomar College’s Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men’s/women’s basketball double-header on Friday, Feb. 21 will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The special fundraiser, to be held in the Dome at Palomar’s San Marcos campus, is part of a joint statewide effort initiated by the California Community College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Associations.

Opening the event will be the Comet men’s team versus MiraCosta at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Palomar women’s team versus San Diego Mesa at approximately 7:00 p.m. For both teams, the games will close out the 2013-14 regular season.

“It is hoped our campus community will pack the Dome for an entertaining activity that also supports a worthy cause,” said Director of Athletics Scott Cathcart. “Now an annual event, these games provide the perfect opportunity for our basketball teams and the institution to interface in a positive community service effort.”

Funds from similar events at community colleges throughout the state will be pooled into a combined donation from the CCCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Associations and presented to representatives of the American Cancer Society at the state championship tournament, scheduled for March 14-16 at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
