Tutor Handbook and Self-Evaluaion

A PDF version of our Writing Center’s Tutor Handbook, intended as both a training document and resource, is available here.  Please contact Dr. Leanne Maunu, Writing Center Director, if you would like to borrow a copy of The Bedford Guide for Writing Tutors, which goes into much more detail about various situations and strategies.  Our current self-evaluaton form is available here.

Palomar College Dashboard: A Student Guide to Using Information Ethically & Accurately is a set of self-paced online tutorials about avoiding plagiarism, using information, and citing sources.

The Purdue Online Writing Lab and the Dartmouth Writing Program are good resources for all aspects of academic, college-level writing, from deciding on a topic and drafting various types of papers to documenting sources (using MLA, APA, or Chicago style) and editing grammar and punctuation.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison handout on Acknowledging Sources is a printable document covering the finer points of avoiding plagiarism.

Prospective Tutors

Please contact Dr. Leanne Maunu, Writing Center Director, by email (no phone calls, please) if you are interested in working as a tutor in the Writing Center.  Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field. *UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 2019:  There is currently a hiring freeze in place at Palomar College, so, for the foreseeable future, we will be unable to hire any new tutors.
