The French Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The World Languages Department offers the following courses in French:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

(Students who complete the following courses may earn a Certificate or AA degree in French<\/a>. Courses are offered face-to-face, online and in hybrid format.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FREN 101  French I  (5 units)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This course is the first semester of French. This elementary level course is a study of the French language and French-speaking cultures, with emphasis on the development of communicative skills and basic structures. Course combines in-class instruction and practice with self-paced study in the Language Laboratory. This beginning-level course is for students with no previous coursework in French. Zero cost textbook course!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FREN 102  French II  (5 units)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This course is the second semester of French. This elementary level course is a study of the French language and French-speaking cultures, with continued emphasis on the development of communicative skills and basic structures. Course combines in-class instruction with self-paced study in the Foreign Language Laboratory. Zero cost textbook course!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FREN 201  French III  (5 units)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This course is the third semester of French. This intermediate level course is a study of the French language and French-speaking cultures, focusing on intermediate level structures and readings of culturally relevant authentic materials. Emphasis is on developing oral, listening, reading and writing skills in order to acquire proficiency in
French. Course combines in-class instruction with self-paced study in the World Languages Laboratory. Class is largely conducted in French. Zero cost textbook course!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FREN 202  French IV  (5 units)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This course is the fourth semester of French. This intermediate level course is a study of the French language and of special topics on the culture of the French-speaking world. Emphasis is on further development of oral, listening, reading and writing skills in order to improve communicative competence in French. Class is largely conducted in French. FREN 140  Basic French Pronunciation  (1 unit)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Associate in Arts (AA) DEGREE and CERTIFICATE Program in French:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An AA in French<\/strong> is a 60 unit degree offered by the college. You will major in French but you still have to complete the other 40 GE unit requirements. Learn more about the AA in French<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Certificate of Achievement<\/strong> in French<\/strong> is a 20 unit certificate that requires only the completion of the four French courses (or accepted substitutions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

French at Palomar is a zero cost textbook program! That means that all course materials are provided for free for French 101, 102, 201 and 202.
