Our Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The department offers lower-division, transfer-level courses in seven languages: Arabic<\/a>, Chinese<\/a>, French<\/a>, German<\/a>, Italian<\/a>, Japanese<\/a> and Spanish<\/a>. Most language courses meet General Education requirements. Classes are taught on campus, online, in a hybrid format and via video lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Degree & Certificate Programs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The department offers  an AA-T program in Spanish<\/a> and AA programs in French<\/a>, German<\/a>, Italian<\/a> and Japanese<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program Advantages<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Beginning and intermediate language classes are transferable to four-year universities and meet General Education requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mastery of a foreign language is an invaluable asset in nearly every field, whether in business or in academics. Beyond the immediate practical advantages of foreign-language study, there is also the profound personal enrichment that comes from the first-hand knowledge of other peoples and cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the World Languages Department is to provide an engaging teaching and learning environment for students to gain language proficiency in Arabic<\/a>, Chinese<\/a>, French<\/a>, German<\/a>, Italian<\/a>, Japanese<\/a> and Spanish<\/a>. Emphasis is on the expansion of cross-cultural awareness, as well as the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in the target language. Through the study of languages, students develop an awareness of the experiences of others, an understanding of their unique ways of life, and a recognition and respect for their diversity and contributions to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are committed to helping our students achieve communicative competence in world languages in order to contribute as individuals and global citizens living responsibly, effectively, and creatively in an interdependent and ever-changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
