{"id":312,"date":"2016-05-18T10:36:53","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T17:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/welding\/?page_id=312"},"modified":"2024-03-22T07:41:07","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T14:41:07","slug":"faq","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/welding\/faq\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frequently Asked Questions<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Q: <\/strong><\/span>I am interested in Welding, I have never taken classes at Palomar before, where do I start?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">A:<\/span><\/strong> First you must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/apply\">Apply\/Register<\/a> as a student with the college. Then we recommend ALL students start with WELD 100.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Q:<\/strong><\/span> I registered as a student and it says all the Welding classes are full, what do I do?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>A:<\/strong><\/span> The Welding program is severely impacted due to only having capacity for 22 students. We recommend that you show up the first day and try to &#8220;crash&#8221; the course. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn&#8217;t. It all depends on if students show up or not. <em><strong>Please be aware that just because you show up to crash, you are not guaranteed entry into the course. Instructors will drop enrolled students that are &#8220;no shows&#8221; to make room for waitlisted students, then crashers, but it is not guaranteed.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Q:<\/span><\/strong> I have Welding experience and I am only interested in learning 1 process. Do I really need to take WELD 100?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">A:<\/span><\/strong> Yes, we have had students with 10-30 years of experience tell us they learned a lot from WELD 100 and taking the course is a great way to start your new educational goals.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Q:<\/span><\/strong> I want to get certified, how do I test?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">A:<\/span><\/strong> Currently we only do welding qualification tests once per year during our WELD 140 course in the summer. We currently offer testing in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Q:<\/span><\/strong> What class(es) should I take during or after WELD 100?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">A:<\/span> <\/strong>This answer is specific to which industry you plan to enter. We recommend students take our pipe class (145) and qualification class (140) after they have completed many of our courses. Students are not allowed to repeat courses, therefore if they take these courses without being prepared, there is no chance to take it again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Q:<\/strong> <\/span>Can I\/We come see the facility?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">A:<\/span><\/strong> Due to safety standards, we do not allow people in our laboratory that are not currently enrolled in our classes. If you would like to see the facility please see the pictures posted. The only exception is through Official College scheduled tours.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Q:<\/strong><\/span> When I go into the course schedule I never see any welding classes, when are courses offered?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>A:<\/strong><\/span> Typically this is just an easy search error.
