Top Ten Study Tips

by Cynthia Anfinson

  1. Attend class regularly (even if it is Friday).  If you don't come to class you will miss a lot!  And if you do miss class you are responsible for getting all the material I covered from somebody else in the class.  Don't come to me and ask me to re-teach the class.  I won't do it.

  2. Take good notes.  You need to come with paper, a pencil or a pen and be ready to take notes on the lecture.

  3. Ask questions about the homework you did not understand, or anything in the book or lecture you did not understand.

  4. Do your homework promptly.  If you get behind you are doomed.

  5. Go over your class notes before starting the homework.

  6. Read the book!  No kidding!

  7. Participate in class.  When we work in groups you need to work on the problems assigned, not discuss last weekend's party.  You can learn a lot during class time or waste it.

  8. Get help when you are confused.  Don't wait until the day of the test.  It's too late then.

  9. Prioritize your time.  Don't think you can work a 35 hour week, take 18 units and have an active social life.  You can't.

  10. Be prepared for class.  Bring your book, homework and calculator to every class.  Be ready to learn!
