IX?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Title IX is a comprehensive federal law enacted in 1972 as part of the Higher Education Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.&nbsp; Title IX applies to colleges and universities that receive federal financial assistance, including Palomar College. &nbsp;Title IX states, in part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Title IX prohibits actual, attempted, or threatened sexual harassment, sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking related to education, employment, and other services provided by Palomar College.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_do_I_have_to_complete_this_Title_IX_training\"><\/span>Why do I have to complete this Title IX training?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Per California state law <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB2683\">(AB 2683)<\/a> and (<a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB2608\">AB 2608<\/a>) each campus of the California Community Colleges that receives state financial assistance must annually train its students on the prevention of sexual violence and harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_does_this_Title_IX_training_cover\"><\/span>What does this Title IX training cover?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#top\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Topics must include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Common facts and myths about the causes of sexual violence and sexual harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What constitutes sexual violence and sexual harassment, including information on how to file internal administrative complaints with the institution of higher education and how to file criminal charges with local law enforcement officials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The availability of, and contact information for, campus and community resources for students who are victims of sexual violence and sexual harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Methods of encouraging peer support for victims and the imposition of sanctions on offenders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information regarding campus, criminal, and civil consequences of committing acts of sexual violence and sexual harassment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contact information of a Title IX coordinator or a similar position<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Statistics on the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual violence in the educational setting, and the differing rates at which students experience sexual harassment and sexual assault in the educational setting based on their race, sexual orientation, disability, gender, and gender identity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 may either choose to complete yearly training in sexual violence and harassment prevention shown on their MyPalomar as a Hold titled \u201c or certify that they have within the past year taken similar student training at another California college or university.
