SAN MARCOS – In observance of Black History Month, Palomar College will be hosting different celebrations and workshops centered on Black history, disrupting racism, religion, and more.
The 3rd Annual Black History Month Celebration began Feb. 1 with a kick-off fair taking place on the San Marcos campus. Future events will be happening both in person and on Zoom so all students have the ability to participate.
The Palomar Black Faculty and Staff Association (PBFAS) has organized events that focus on the themes of Black Resistance: Celebrating Our Triumphs, Successes, and Progress. The events will include presentations from individuals such as Dr. Ronald McCurdy, Arnella Giles, Terhea Williams, Cheryl Kearse, Dr. Khalid White, Felipe Arevalo and Rae Russell, and many others.
“This is a call to everyone, inside and outside the academy, to study the history of Black Americans’ responses to establish safe spaces,” the PBFAS explains on the overview of the event, “where Black life can be sustained, fortified, and respected.”
These celebrations also mark the third annual Black History Month Workshop series, where the PBFAS will be offering educational, insightful, and uplifting workshops for Palomar students, faculty, and the community.
