Movie Review: ‘ The Gentleman’

Guy Ritchie is well known for his Street-talking style British Gangster films such as “ Snatch”(200) and “Rock n’ Rolla” (2008)

Richie returns to his roots after directing fantasy blockbusters such as “Aladdin” (2019) and “ King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” (2017).

His newest flick, “ The Gentleman” features an eccentric cast of characters, starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam ( Who previously starred in “King Arthur with Richie) Jeremy Strong, Colin Farrell, Henry Golding and Hugh Grant.

Richie is well known for fast, colorful foul mouthed and not-quite-so typical polite English characters.

Characters are well dressed and groomed as the title of the movie suggests.

Grant plays Fletcher, a sleazy reporter alongside Ray( Hunnam) a consigliere to Mickey Pearson ( McConaughey) who lays his roots in England by becoming the largest grower and distributor of marijuana.

Fletcher, through the course of the movies, shares a story with Ray in attempt to gain business. Meanwhile, Coach’s (Farrell) boxing team steals his supply and he works to make amends in the process.

Director Richie reconnects with what he has established in the majority of his career and body of work.

The Movie takes its time to tell the story and never has to rush through moments.

However you might need to take breaks from the movie since it plays like a lengthy mini-series.

I highly recommend “ The Gentleman ” if you are into characters who are the opposite of say the polite sophisticated Downton Abbey troupe.
