Softball

The Comets captured their 32nd conference title with a 7-1 victory at hosts Mt. San Jacinto.

K.K. Fronda led off the game with an opposite field home run in another offensive outburst for Palomar this season, collecting 12 hits as a team. Kali Pugh went 3-4 while pitcher Kristina Carbajal excelled on both sides of the field. At the plate Carbajal drove in two runs while on the mound pitching a one-run complete game, spreading out eight hits over seven innings.

Baseball

The Comets won their series decider against Mesa College decisively, 12-2, on Friday.

Sophomore southpaw Jake Barnett moved to 5-1 on the season as he threw six innings giving up only two runs while striking out four.

First baseman Anthony Balderas had a highlight day going 4-5 with 3 RBI’s while catcher Frank Christy hit his eighth home run of the season and drove in four. For Balderas, the day at the plate was exceptional with the only blemish being due to an error by Mesa’s third baseman on a line drive that almost went through him.

In total the Comets offense had 13 hits off five Olympian pitchers.

 

Mens/ Womens Swimming

Palomar’s Emilee Foltz swims the 1000 yard freestyle race held Friday 20 March at the Wallace Memorial Pool against visiting Mesa College. The Comets women’s swim team beat the Olympians womens team 137-129, while the Comets men team lost 151-136. Philip Farry / The Telescope.

Both the mens and womens swim and dive teams competed against Riverside City College at the Riverside Aquatics Complex.

Both teams will next compete in the PCAC championships from Thursday, April 16 to Saturday, April 18 at Palomar College’s Wallace Memorial Pool. The meets will start at 9 a.m. each day.

Mens Volleyball

The Comets lost in their away match to the Orange Coast Pirates (14-4, 11-1 conference) three sets to nil, 25-23, 25-21. 25-19.

Palomar next plays Wednesday, April 8 when they host San Diego City College in the final round of PCAC play, 6 p.m. at the Dome.
