Thursday saw a reversal of fortune for both tennis teams as each were victorious over Imperial Valley College.

In San Marcos, the womens team won 6-1 to improve their record to 6-10. Freshman Bettina Olah, who will be featured in the Telescope’s next issue, defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to continue her impressive year.  Olah also picked up a 8-0 victory in her doubles match alongside partner Teresa de Anda.

On the mens side of the court Palomar swept Imperial Valley, 9-0, to improve their conference record to 6-8.

Both teams next play Thursday-Saturday in their conference playoffs. How they perform there will decide whether they advance to the Ojai regionals later this month.

Baseball rebounded after Tuesday’s shock loss with a gritty, walk-off win against Mesa at Myers Field.

Palomar jumped out to a two-run lead in the first inning courtesy of Frank Christy and Anthony Balderas. Pitcher Tyler Russell was clinical on the mound for the Comets for the first six innings of the game, shutting out the Olympians. Russell ran into trouble in the seventh though and was ushered from the game after giving up 3 runs to let Mesa back into the contest.

The Comets scored again in the bottom of the eighth before Mesa leveled in the ninth. In the bottom of the inning Sam Cainelli led off with a single and, two batters later, was driven in by Joey Cooper’s double to right field.

All five runs scored by Palomar were driven in by different players (Cooper, Christy, Balderas, Holm, Grant).
