In <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/change-academy\/2017\/04\/02\/teamwork-is-best-or-is-it-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Teamwork is Best \u2014 Or is It?<\/a> the author offers a list of questions to ask yourself about how you have designed the team-based assignment for your students. &nbsp;Any element of this list that you have not chosen to structure for your students is one that you may need to devote class time to teaching students how to structure for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/melbourne-cshe.unimelb.edu.au\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0003\/1770717\/Group.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assessing Groupwork<\/a>&nbsp;from Center for the Study of Higher Education gives a clear list of elements to include in well-designed team-based assignments. &nbsp;And <a href=\"http:\/\/smpf.lt\/uploads\/dokumentai\/EHEA%20Mokymai%20II%20dalis\/7.%20UNSW%20Assessing%20Group%20Work.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assessing by Groupwork<\/a>&nbsp;from University of New South Wales, Sydney offers even more detail about how to prepare a team-based assignment, including considering the communication technologies you\u2019re going to suggest that teams should use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studies show that (1) fair assessment of teamwork (acknowledging individual contributions), (2) teaching teamwork skills and (3) team formation approaches are key factors in how learners experience team-based assignments, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jld.edu.au\/article\/view\/227\/233.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bad attitudes: Why design students dislike teamwork<\/a> describes how to structure these elements well in order to minimize unnecessary barriers to teams\u2019 success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Resources:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/ces\/sk\/teamwork.html#Quiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team member roles quiz<\/a>. &nbsp;This quiz is a self-assessment to help students identify what type of role they are likely to feel comfortable in when working in a group and it is followed by examples of how those roles are successfully played for the benefit of the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graduateskills.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Reflecting-on-Team-work.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reflecting on teamwork<\/a>. &nbsp;This worksheet asks students to reflect on their experiences working in teams and could be a good ice-breaker activity when introducing a team-based assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graduateskills.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Sustainability-and-Teamwork_Team-Contract.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team Contract<\/a>. This contract can be used in class to help teams establish their ground rules. &nbsp;Students will need instruction on the elements of the contract and examples of answers to the contract questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graduateskills.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Sustainability-and-Teamwork_Team-Rules.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team Member Evaluation Rubric<\/a>. &nbsp;This template allows a team to create their own list of criteria for evaluating team members. &nbsp;Examples of criteria are provided in the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graduateskills.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Managing-Conflict.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Managing Conflict<\/a>. &nbsp;This guide provides steps for talking about and resolving conflicts.<br><br><strong>Note<\/strong>: The following materials are Open Education Resources\u2013they can be revised, remixed, and redistributed freely without having to contact the authors for permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cnx.org\/contents\/7Rh1jBAZ@18\/Ethics-of-Teamwork\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ethics of Teamwork<\/a> module with reading and activities. &nbsp;Powerpoints are provided.
