The seventh annual Black Student Success Week is scheduled to take place April 20-24, 2026. This year&#8217;s theme is &#8220;Revolution: Re(Defining) Black Student Success.&#8221;\u00a0We invite you to join our\u00a0Palomar College community for in-person and virtual webinars centering Black student success.\u00a0These events are open to all Palomar College students and employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MONDAY, APRIL 20, 2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Black Student Success Welcome Event<\/strong> <strong>&amp; Webinar<\/strong> <strong>(From Designation to Declaration: BSIs Lead in California <\/strong>)<br>11:30 a.m. \u2013 1:30 p.m., LRC-438 <br>* Free lunch will be provided. No registration required.<br><br>About this session: Join us to kick-off Black Student Success Week (BSSW) with welcoming remarks from Dr. Taneisha Hellon, followed by food, community, and the first BSSW webinar. This Webinar examines the rise of Black Serving Institutions (BSIs) in California, tracing the historical context and policy evolution through Senate Bill 1348, followed by the rapid growth of BSI-designated institutions across the state. Participants will hear directly from leaders at BSI colleges about how they are operationalizing Black Servingness. This session will explore how institutions must operationalize support for food, housing, mental health, and financial stability needs, and develop these resources as part of institutional infrastructure rather than peripheral services. The session provides an opportunity to slow down, have casual conversation, and take a moment to prioritize mental well-being. We will also discuss healthy ways to de-stress and highlight campus programs available to students who need resources. Participants will engage with current data on access, completion, transfer, and outcomes to assess both progress and the gaps that persist. The conversation will explore how institutions can use transparent, disaggregated data to drive improvement, inform policy, and advocate for sustained investment to continue driving outcomes for students and graduates.
