{"id":14356,"date":"2023-01-27T15:43:31","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T23:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/studentlifeandleadership\/?page_id=14356"},"modified":"2025-12-09T14:29:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T22:29:14","slug":"students-with-dependent-children","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/studentlifeandleadership\/basic-needs\/students-with-dependent-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Students with Dependent Children"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Campus_Resources\"><\/span>Campus Resources<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CalFresh\"><\/span>CalFresh<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Is a program for low-income families and individuals that meet certain income guidelines.<br>For more information regarding the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegofoodbank.org\/programs\/calfresh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CalFresh<\/a> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CalWORKs\"><\/span>CalWORKs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/calworks\/\">CalWORKs <\/a>(California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) is a state-funded program that assists welfare recipients and those in transition off of welfare through education and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Early_Childhood_Education_Lab_Schools_ECELS\"><\/span>Early Childhood Education Lab Schools (ECELS)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Palomar students may qualify for free or reduced childcare costs.&nbsp; Parents are encouraged to contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ecelabschool\/\">ECELS<\/a> to find out about waitlists and possible openings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disability_Resource_Center_DRC\"><\/span>Disability Resource Center (DRC)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/drc\/\">DRC<\/a> works collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to create accommodations to remove environmental barriers to access and bolster student retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enrollment_Services\"><\/span>Enrollment Services<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Apply and register for classes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/enrollmentservices\/\">Enrollment Services<\/a>. You may qualify for priority registration if you are a first-time student, Disability Resource Center (DRC) student, EOP&amp;S, foster youth, CalWORKS student, an eligible veteran, or active duty military personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"EOP_S\"><\/span>EOP&amp;S <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/eops\/\">Extended Opportunities Programs and Services<\/a> (EOPS) is a state-funded program designed for the orientation, recruitment and retention of California residents who are economically, socially, and educationally disadvantaged. EOPS assists students in reaching their educational goals through academic support and financial assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Financial_Aid\"><\/span>Financial Aid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You have many options when it comes to paying for college.  Apply for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/fa\/\">Financial Aid<\/a> today to see if you qualify for a scholarship, grant or other financial aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Food_Nutrition_Center\"><\/span>Food &amp; Nutrition Center<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/studentlifeandleadership\/food-and-nutrition-center\/\">Food &amp; Nutrition Center<\/a> is a full pantry available to all students who might be facing food insecurity.  You have access to diapers\/wipes, baby food (when available), limited toiletries (supply and variety of items fluctuate) and feminine hygiene products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foster_Youth\"><\/span>Foster Youth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/fosteryouth\/\">FYRST<\/a> (Foster Youth Retention Success and Transition) provides a sense of belonging and purpose for foster youth students. FYRST strives to create equal opportunities and promote access to resources which allow students to achieve their goals and dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Health_Services\"><\/span>Health Services<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission of Palomar College <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/healthservices\/\">Health Services<\/a> is to support the physical, mental and social well-being of our students through accessible, high-quality health and wellness services.  Palomar College is a breastfeeding-friendly campus that offers a clean and private <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/lactationsupport\/\">Lactation Pod<\/a> for breastfeeding and pumping. See below for further explanation of the the VITA and CalEITC programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"California_Earned_Income_Tax_Credit_CalEITC\"><\/span>California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be eligible for a California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) up to $3,417 for tax year 2022 as a working family or individual earning up to $30,000 per year.  Check if you qualify: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftb.ca.gov\/about-ftb\/newsroom\/caleitc\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CalEITC<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Volunteer_Income_Tax_Assistance_VITA\"><\/span>Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals, including: people who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers.  Services are free.  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/211.my.site.com\/s\/service\/a1j3h000000tBy4AAE\/211-vita-caleitc-direct-referral\" target=\"_blank\">Direct Referral<\/a> for CalEITC and VITA assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Young_Child_Tax_Credit_YCTC\"><\/span>Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) provides a credit up to $1,083 per tax return for Californians who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftb.ca.gov\/about-ftb\/newsroom\/caleitc\/eligibility-and-credit-information.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">qualify for CalEITC<\/a> and have a child under 6 years old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Additional_Resources\"><\/span> Additional Resources<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftb.ca.gov\/file\/personal\/credits\/college-access-tax-credit.html\" target=\"_blank\">College Access Tax Credit<\/a>: you may be able to claim this credit if you contribute to the California Access Tax Credit (CATC) Fund.  This fund helps provide financial aid to low-income college students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.first5california.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\">First 5 California<\/a>: California&#8217;s parenting website.
