Degree<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Deaf Studies A.A. Degree program is a two year course of study that prepares students to develop conversational skills in ASL along with Deaf cultural awareness and competence to successfully interact with members of the deaf community. Graduates can use these skills to continue their studies in other deafness related fields such as Deaf Education, ASL\/English Interpreting, Speech Therapy, and others or to add to their resumes to show that they are prepared to include deaf members of the public in whatever service they provide, such as medical, social work, education, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CSU, UC, and other University Systems <\/strong><br \/>\nThese ASL and Deaf Culture courses also satisfy Humanities units for transfer to four year institutions as well as satisfying foreign language requirements for most universities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deaf Studies A.A. Degree Major<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students can earn an A.A. Degree in Deaf Studies by taking the following courses for students who are not already competent in ASL:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Requirements<\/strong> <strong>\/ Units<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ASL 100 American Sign Language I \/ 4 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 101 American Sign Language II \/ 4 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 105 Fingerspelling and Number Systems\/ 3 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 110 Awareness of Deaf Culture \/ 3 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 115 Perspectives on Deafness \/ 3 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 205 American Sign Language III \/ 4 units<\/p>\n<p>ASL 206 American Sign Language IV \/ 4 units<\/p>\n<p>TOTAL UNITS: 25 units<\/p>\n<p>Of the 25 possible units, students must complete at least 18 units but ASL 110, ASL 115, and<b>\u00a0<\/b>ASL 206 are required for the Deaf Studies Degree.
