{"id":72,"date":"2014-09-15T15:40:55","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T15:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/psychology\/?page_id=72"},"modified":"2014-09-15T15:40:55","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T15:40:55","slug":"ucsd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/psychology\/transfer-issues\/uc-system\/ucsd\/","title":{"rendered":"UCSD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UCSD Transfer Requirements for Psychology Majors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Considering UCSD as a psychology major? \u00a0<a title=\"UCSD Psych Department\" href=\"http:\/\/www.psychology.ucsd.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Here is the Psychology Department webpage<\/a> for more information about their program. \u00a0Below you&#8217;ll find the basic requirements you&#8217;ll need to satisfy for transfer as a psychology major.<\/p>\n<p>UCSD offers 2 bachelor degrees in psychology: \u00a0The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS). \u00a0The distinction is subtle in the grand scheme of things, but basically they suggest the BS route for people who are interested in science-oriented careers and\/or who intend to go on to graduate school. \u00a0Regardless, to maximize your chance of acceptance, take as many major-prep courses as possible, including:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>3 Natural Science courses chosen from\n<ul>\n<li>Biological Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Physics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>3 Formal Skills courses\n<ul>\n<li>For the BA: Calculus (at least 1 course) or logic<\/li>\n<li>For the BS: Calculus for science and engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Computer programming (1 course)<\/li>\n<li>Statistics (1 course; must be taken for a letter grade).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For maximum efficiency, try to take courses that satisfy your major requirements and general education requirements at the same time! \u00a0For example, almost all UC campuses require statistics for psychology majors. \u00a0Make sure the statistics course you take at Palomar also satisfies the mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning requirement for transfer (as of the 2014-15 academic year, Psy 205 satisfies both!). \u00a0Also, and yes, it is getting repetitive, but make use of <a href=\"http:\/\/web1.assist.org\/web-assist\/articulationAgreement.do?inst1=none&amp;inst2=none&amp;ia=PALOMAR&amp;ay=14-15&amp;oia=UCSD&amp;dir=1\">Assist.org<\/a> to find out the specific Palomar courses that will satisfy the above requirements as well as the psychology courses offered at Palomar that will transfer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intercollege General Education Transfer Courses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While completion of all general education (GE) requirements is advised, it is not required. \u00a0UCSD is divided into six\u00a0different colleges and\u00a0completing the 37 semester hour courses for IGETC will satisfy the GE requirements at four of them (John Muir, Thurgood Marshall, Sixth, and Earl Warren). \u00a0IGETC courses are accepted at the other two (Eleanor Roosevelt and Revelle), but additional coursework may be required. \u00a0Note, that the psychology major is available at all six colleges, so you are not limited there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UCSD Transfer Requirements for Psychology Majors Considering UCSD as a psychology major? \u00a0Here is the Psychology Department webpage for more information about their program. \u00a0Below you&#8217;ll find the basic requirements you&#8217;ll need to satisfy for transfer as a psychology major.
