{"id":1169,"date":"2018-12-17T16:49:59","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T00:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/policeacademy\/?page_id=1169"},"modified":"2023-11-29T16:33:21","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T00:33:21","slug":"module-course-information-pdf-link","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/policeacademy\/module-course-information-pdf-link\/","title":{"rendered":"Modules"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-gb1169-69e3d3660880c\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Basic Police Academy<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p>Academy Recruits will receive 39 units college credit for attending the complete academy training program.\u00a0 These units may be applied toward an Associate&#8217;s Degree in Administration of Justice.\u00a0 Students must contact the Palomar College Admissions Office and\/or Counseling Office to verify eligibility for the Associate&#8217;s Degree program.<\/p>\n<p>Academy costs vary with materials, facility, and instructional content.\u00a0 The Palomar College Police Academy Curriculum includes an Academy Preparation Course followed by three extended format (part-time) instructional Modules.\u00a0 The Modules are completed in descending order and correspond to the three levels of Reserve Peace Officers in California.\u00a0 Completion of all three modules certifies a recruit to be employed as a full time sworn peace officer.\u00a0 All three modules are not required to be completed in the same year, however those who wish to serve as a full time officer must complete all three modules before being able to be hired, so it is recommended that the modules are completed consecutively in one training year.<\/p>\n<p>Recruits must be accepted into the Police Academy program through a competitive selection process.\u00a0 Students apply through the Police Academy website during the application period and then complete the three-part testing process.\u00a0 Only those students accepted into the academy are permitted to attend and the academy completes enrollment through special permission.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Academy Preparation Course<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>AJ 85 <\/strong><em>&#8211; 3 units <\/em>[4 weeks]<\/p>\n<p>The Academy Preparation Course is a four-week course that prepares students for the police academy, to include learning the policies and procedures, ordering required uniforms and equipment, and developing foundational skills in various topics, to include communication, critical thinking, report writing, lifetime fitness, and student success strategies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"panel-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text\" data-index=\"2\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Module III<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>AJ 86 Basic Police Academy Module III<\/strong> <em>&#8211; 7 units<\/em> [8 weeks]<\/p>\n<p>Prerequisites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Possess a valid driver&#8217;s license<\/li>\n<li>Obtain a California DOJ Firearms Clearance<\/li>\n<li>Obtain a medical clearance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This course is equivalent to the Basic Course Module III Extended format training standards are set forth by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).\u00a0 Topics covered include ethics, the criminal justice system, laws of arrest, search and seizure, custody, firearms, arrest and control techniques, first aid\/CPR\/AED, use of force\/de-escalation and other related subjects.\u00a0 This meets the requirements for appointment as a Level III Reserve Officer\/Deputy and satisfies the arrest and firearms training requirements specified in Penal Code Section 832.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"panel-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text\" data-index=\"3\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Module II<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>AJ 87A Basic Police Academy Module IIA<\/strong> &#8211;<em> 6 units<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>AJ 87B Basic Police Academy Module IIB<\/strong> &#8211;<em> 6 units\u00a0<\/em>[12.5 weeks total]<\/p>\n<p>Prerequisites <em>(in addition to Module III prerequisites)<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful completion of Module III<\/li>\n<li>Current in PC 832 Arrest and Firearms training requirements<\/li>\n<li>Passage of the POST-constructed Comprehensive Module III End of Course Proficiency Exam within the preceding 12 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AJ 87A and AJ 87B are equivalent to the Basic Course Module II Extended format training standards are set forth by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).\u00a0 The prerequisite for this course is successful completion of a POST-certified Module III course.\u00a0 Topics covered include property crimes, crimes against persons, principled policing in the community, firearms, chemical agents, report writing, cultural diversity and discrimination, preliminary investigations, crimes in progress, and other related subjects.\u00a0 This module meets the requirements for appointment as a Level II Reserve Officer\/Deputy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"panel-gb1169-69e3d3660880c-1-0-3\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Module I<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>AJ 88A Basic Police Academy Module IIA<\/strong> &#8211;<em> 5 units\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>AJ 88B Basic Police Academy Module IIB<\/strong> &#8211;<em> 12 units\u00a0<\/em>[22 weeks total]<\/p>\n<p>Prerequisites (in addition to Module III &amp;
