The year 2026 marks 100 years of national commemorations of Black history, a legacy that began when Dr. Carter G. Woodson and his colleagues founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915. Rooted in early traditions of celebrating freedom milestones like Emancipation and Juneteenth, Dr. Woodson institutionalized the study and public recognition of Black contributions through Negro History Week in 1925, later evolving into the federal designation of February as Black History Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Palomar Black Faculty and Staff Association (PBFSA) invites you to celebrate A Century of Black History Commemorations<\/strong> with us in February 2026. There are a few of ways to participate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBFSA Annual Black History Month Fair<\/summary>\n

Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 from 10 a.m. \u2013 2 p.m. | San Marcos Student Union<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBFSA will kick off Black History Month with our annual Black History Month Fair, on Wednesday, February 4th. This is an opportunity to share your department or program with students on campus while supporting Black History.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are interested in reserving a booth, please sign up by Monday, January 12, 2026: 2026 Black History Month Fair. <\/a>E<\/a>ach booth participant will receive a poster for display at the Black History Month Fair<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

PBFSA Black History Month Workshop Series<\/summary>\n

Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. \u2013 5:00 p.m. | LRC 438<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to offer educational, insightful, and uplifting workshops during our sixth annual Black History Month Workshop series. These workshops are open for our Palomar students, faculty, staff, and community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optional Black History Month Department Displays<\/summary>\n

Duration of February 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your department may create an exhibit, display, or programming that honors the contributions, struggles, and achievements of people of African descent. It\u2019s even more impactful if there is a direct connection to your department or program. For example, the Sociology Department could create an exhibit on W.E.B. DuBois, a prominent sociologist, discussing his work and achievements. Booth participants for the Black History Month Fair may use the posters received from the fair for these displays throughout the month of February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we mark 100 years of Black history commemorations, we invite the Palomar community to reflect, participate, and celebrate the enduring legacy of African American excellence and cultural contributions.
