At the age of 20, Felix Mendelssohn embarked on a visit to Great Britain. As he walked through the Scottish countryside, taking in the history and the ruins of that fascinating landscape he heard in his mind the beginning of a noble and mournful introduction. The 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span>\u00a0symphony was not finished until 13 years later and was the last symphony he finished (but was the 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to be published).
