Discrimination in housing\u00a0that has either barred Black Americans from homeownership\u00a0entirely\u00a0or increased property taxes are some of the reasons this wealth gap persists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.trust.org\/item\/20200713110849-az14m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Redlining and other discriminatory housing practices<\/a>\u00a0have contributed to the fact that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/06\/15\/perspectives\/housing-discrimination\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">75 percent of white households own their homes compared to just 44 percent of Black households<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That divide has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/7\/10\/21319873\/covid-19-coronavirus-cases-deaths-black-americans-housing-segregation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">remained largely unchanged since the beginning of the 20th century<\/a>.\u00a0What impact has\u00a0racism in the housing\u00a0market had on families of color in America.
