{"id":10382,"date":"2016-10-25T09:24:36","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T16:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomarperforms.com\/?p=10382"},"modified":"2025-12-29T13:59:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T21:59:16","slug":"patriceann-mead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/patriceann-mead\/","title":{"rendered":"Patriceann Mead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-105360 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2025\/12\/Patriceann-mead-Edited-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Patriceann Mead Headshot\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2025\/12\/Patriceann-mead-Edited-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2025\/12\/Patriceann-mead-Edited-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2025\/12\/Patriceann-mead-Edited.jpg 335w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><a href=\"mailto:pmead@palomar.edu\"><strong>Patriceann Mead<\/strong><\/a>, Co-Chair of Performing Arts, joined the Palomar College Performing Arts Department faculty in 1997 as a full-time dance professor.<\/p>\n<p>Before coming to Palomar, Patriceann attended the State University of New York at Brockport where she earned three degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Dance, a Masters of Arts, and a Masters of Fine Arts.\u00a0 She also served as a graduate assistant as well as becoming the recipient for the Pylyshenko-Strasser Graduate Dance Award for outstanding work in both written scholarship and performance.<\/p>\n<p>She danced with Agroma, an African Dance Ensemble directed by Professor Alber Opoku from the University of Ghana.\u00a0 She also danced with two Afro-Brazilian Dance Ensembles: Sankofa and Alafiagia, both directed by Clyde Morgan and Khalid Saleem.\u00a0 Patriceann started her own company in 1990: The Minzeko Drum and Dance Ensemble.\u00a0 She was the artistic director and choreographer for the company from 1990-1997. And, most noteworthy as an undergraduate, she danced with the internationally acclaimed dance legend, Garth Fagan.\u00a0 Upon arriving to California, she began studying Afro-Cuban dance with Juan Carlos from 1997-2001, and has also studied with Teresita Dance Perez and Susana Arennas Pedrosa. She also started performing, collaborating, and team teaching with Cuban artist Silfredo La O Vigo, whom she brought to the world program and to the company in 2006, as the new music director for Agogo.<\/p>\n<p>She is the founder and artistic director of the Afro-Cuban\/Brazilian Drum and Dance Ensemble, Agogo, formally known as the Palomar Drum and Dance Ensemble.
