{"id":10054,"date":"2016-10-04T11:42:25","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T18:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomarperforms.com\/?p=10054"},"modified":"2025-12-29T13:59:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T21:59:47","slug":"dr-ellen-weller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/dr-ellen-weller\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Ellen Weller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13832 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/palomarperforms\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/119\/2019\/08\/arts3_weller1-220x270.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"270\" \/>Dr. Ellen Weller joined the Palomar Performing Arts Department in 2005, where she teaches classes in music theory, ear-training, music literature, and directs the Palomar Symphony Orchestra.\u00a0 She earned her B.A. and M.A. in Music Composition from Queens College of the City University of New York, and completed her PhD studies at UCSD.\u00a0 She has studied conducting with Peter Jaffe, Donald Portnoy, David Chase, Martin Canellakis, Harvey Sollberger, and Kenneth Bell.\u00a0 She was an invited Fellow at the 2012 Conductors Institute of South Carolina, and recently appeared as guest conductor with the Poway Symphonette.<\/p>\n<p>A pianist and multi-winds performer, Weller has two CDs on the Circumvention label: \u201cSpirits, Little Dreams and Improvisations (2004)\u201d and \u201cPoint of Contact (2008).\u201d\u00a0 Her compositions include works for solo piano, flute, voice, and chamber ensembles, some exploring improvisation and graphic notation, and have been performed in New York, Detroit, San Diego and Los Angeles.\u00a0 Recent works include \u201cPrior\u2019s Waltz\u201d for orchestra, \u201c1918: for two pianos and community,\u201d incidental music to \u201cAngels in America,\u201d \u201cPine Apple Rag\u201d for piano soloist and orchestra, and an arrangement of \u201cBei Mir Bist Du Shein\u201d for orchestra and Klezmer ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ellen Weller<br \/>\nProfessor of Music<br \/>\n760.744.1150 ext. 3949<br \/>\neweller@palomar.edu<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor &#8211;
