Event Series Event Series (See All)

IT’S MONUMENTAL
Original Short Plays • Directed by Michael Mufson
Thursday May 13 at 700 p.m., Friday May 14 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday May 15 at 2:00 p.m., and
7:00 p.m., and Sunday May 16 at 4:00 p.m.

From May 13th to 16th, 2020, Palomar College’s virtual community will be abuzz with artful conversations about one of America’s most uncomfortable topics, racism. The Festival, It’s Monumental . . . Ending The Silence, which is open to the public, will feature a live Zoom Stage for 5 diverse performances and a host of virtual galleries available on their website 24/7.

The live Zoom stage will feature original performance creations by the Monumental Theatre Ensemble plus invited guests. Audiences should anticipate a dynamic variety of scenes, sketches, stories and physicalized spoken word with a smattering of pre-recorded videos. Each performance will include an opportunity for solution-oriented dialogue with the audience. While it is impossible to cover the vast complexity of racialized dynamics in our country, our performances will illuminate a spectrum of the larger system with the intent of inspiring conversations and actions. We will employ humor and passion, evocative language and awkward silence, complex metaphor and simple truth to create an opening for deeper understanding of each other and the racist system that entangles us all.

The virtual galleries will be a space for exploration. With works in a variety of written, visual and hybrid formats, our guests will be able to follow their instincts to discover communications from their fellow humans.
