{"id":76,"date":"2013-09-19T22:40:24","date_gmt":"2013-09-19T22:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/nursing\/?page_id=76"},"modified":"2020-05-13T10:41:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T17:41:00","slug":"clinical-agency-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/nursing\/clinical-agency-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinical Agency Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>The background check\/drug screen\u00a0procedure should not be initiated until directed to do so by the Nursing Education\u00a0Department staff<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">As per the Palomar College Nursing Education Department agreement with the San Diego Nursing &amp; Allied Health Service Education Consortium, students and faculty must complete a background check and drug screen prior to participating in clinical experiences at health care facilities. The results of this background check and drug screen will be investigated and reviewed by <strong>each<\/strong> clinical agency prior to any clinical rotation throughout the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\"><strong>At a minimum, background checks will\u00a0include the following:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Seven years residence\/background history<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Address verification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Two names (current legal and one other name)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Three counties<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Sex offender database search<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">OIG\/GSA-Medicare Excluded List<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Social Security Number verification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Search through applicable professional certification or licensing agency for infractions, if\u00a0\u00a0 student currently holds a professional license or certification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">10-Panel Drug Screen<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">Each semester the clinical agencies being used will make their own determination as to whether or not a student is allowed to enter their facility for clinical. Due to the strict requirements of each site, students with any of the following situations (but not limited to) may not be accepted by the clinical site and therefore, will not be allowed to begin and\/or continue in the Nursing Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Felony convictions of any kind<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Class B &amp; Class A misdemeanor theft<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Fraud<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Drug &amp; alcohol related offenses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Convictions of abuse, battery, violence, hate crime, theft or dishonesty<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">History of repeated offenses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Active warrant for arrest<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">On probation of any kind &#8211; even reckless driving<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif\">Dilute urine drug screen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">DUI<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">The above list is not comprehensive of the items that might come up during the background check process. Anything that results in a &#8220;flag&#8221; on the background check can and will be examined by the clinical agencies. These decisions are independent of the rules of admission to Palomar College. The faculty of the Palomar Nursing Program is not in control of any clinical agency\u2019s decision. If at any time during the program a clinical agency refuses a clinical placement, the student will not be allowed to continue in the program.
