{"id":230,"date":"2013-09-26T17:46:41","date_gmt":"2013-09-26T17:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/nursing\/?page_id=230"},"modified":"2023-03-06T15:04:49","modified_gmt":"2023-03-06T23:04:49","slug":"lvns-who-challenge-lvn-board","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/nursing\/lvns-who-challenge-lvn-board\/","title":{"rendered":"LVN 30 Unit Option"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">If interested in the 30 unit option, please first contact the Nursing Department Chairperson via email.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">The LVN 30 unit option is available to any LVN licensed in the state of California.\u00a0 This one year program is for the applicant with a valid California Vocational Nurse license who wishes to quickly meet the requirements to take the NCLEX-RN as a <strong>non-graduate<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\">The program is prescribed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and provides an Registered Nursing license for <strong>California only<\/strong>. No degree is granted upon completion. LVNs who select this option <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">may not change<\/span> to the LVN-ADN. The student should also be aware that they may not change their status as a 30 unit option RN with the Board of Registered Nursing at any time after licensure.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Most other states do not recognize<\/strong> California&#8217;s <acronym title=\"Licensed Vocational Nurse\">LVN<\/acronym> 30 unit option and will not issue <acronym title=\"Registered Nurse\">RN<\/acronym> licenses to these <acronym title=\"Licensed Vocational Nurse\">LVNs.<\/acronym>\u00a0 The college acts as a facilitator. A maximum of 30 units of nursing and support courses are required to fulfill the unit requirement for licensure by the BRN. The 30 unit option student will then take the NCLEX-RN exam as a non-graduate.
