SAN MARCOS, CA \u2013 October ended with high accolades for Palomar College\u2019s radio station, KKSM, and for award-winning broadcast students in the Digital Broadcast Arts (DBA) program.<\/p>\n
KKSM was named the Best Two-Year College Radio Station by the College Media Association (CMA) and student Doug Paulson received Honorable Mention for Best Newscast. These awards were announced at the CMA annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia on Oct. 29.<\/p>\n
At a separate conference, student Ken Hladky received the Fourth Place award for Best Entertainment Program from College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) at the National Student Electronic Media Convention in Philadelphia Oct. 22.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is so great to see our radio DBA students gain the recognition they deserve,\u201d said Pat Hahn, professor of media studies. \u201cOur students work\u00a0extremely\u00a0hard\u00a0at\u00a0maintaining the standards of excellence provided to them in their radio class. Each student has the mindset that this is a professional level radio station and act accordingly. I’m so proud of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
KKSM General Manager Zeb Navarro said , \u201cOut of all the CMA nominees, Palomar has the only community college radio station with a terrestrial signal (am\/fm) and the only one that is licensed by the FCC. This speaks volumes of the academic and professional quality that Palomar College has to offer its broadcasting students.\u201d<\/p>\n
