Dreams come true for three former Palomar College baseball players at the recent 2023 MLB draft. Kyle Carr, a left-handed pitcher, who played for the Comets during the 2023 season, was drafted by the New York Yankees in the third round of the MLB draft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carr, the first Junior College player taken in the 2023 draft is a talented pitcher with a solid 3-pitch mix and has a fastball of up to 98 MPH. Prior to the draft, Carr had committed to playing at Texas Christian University. \u201cKyle is an extremely talented and mature young man. It was a special experience for me, being able to watch him play and compete,\u201c said Ben Adams, Palomar College Head Baseball Coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the ninth round of the draft, Palomar alumni Quincy Scott, an outfielder, and Jacob Widener a pitcher were drafted by the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals, respectively. Scott played for the Palomar Comets during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and committed to UC Santa Barbara prior to the draft. <\/strong>His career at Palomar was nothing less than stellar. He is among the top three in almost every offensive statistical category including batting average, hits, runs, RBI\u2019s, and on-base percentage. Beyond the individual numbers, he was able to help lead Palomar to repeat conference titles, a 71-21 overall record and a trip to the 2022 California State Final Four tournament. \u201cQuincy was a special player. He did things here that no one has ever done. I could not be more proud of the person and player he is. He ranks as one of the very best players I have had the privilege to coach,\u201d said Coach Adams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Widener, played for the Comets during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, before transferring to Oral Roberts University. While at Oral Roberts, he was instrumental in helping the team advance to the NCAA College World Series. When asked about Widener, Coach Adams proudly stated, \u201cJacob has grown and developed into a terrific young man. He has a bright future ahead of him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe MLB draft has only validated what we have known for quite some time. Our baseball program at Palomar College is one of high quality that prepares our student athletes for success whether they go on to play for a 4-year institution or at the professional level.
