SAN MARCOS \u2014 Palomar College on Feb. 1 expanded free wireless internet access to the second floor of the parking structure on campus, providing fast, reliable connectivity for students Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n
College leaders said the temporary access point was opened to accommodate the ongoing remote learning environment due to COVID-19. Students may now access their courses, join virtual study groups, conduct research for assignments and take exams while inside their vehicles on the main floor of the parking structure.<\/p>\n
The structure is adjacent to lot 12, and can be accessed using the campus entrance off Las Posas Road and Avenida Azul.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur students have done an amazing job of pursuing their education since we made the rapid transition to remote learning last spring,\u201d said Interim Superintendent\/President Dr. Jack Kahn. \u201cWe understand that there are still those who may need a stable internet connection, and this free Wi-Fi will be useful to a number of students while they fulfill their coursework.\u201d<\/p>\n
Students entering campus to use the Wi-Fi in the parking structure are subject to the college\u2019s COVID-19 screening procedures, which include a temperature scan, at the screening station in lot 12. Those experiencing a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19 will be unable to access the campus.<\/p>\n
While inside the parking structure to use the Palomar College wireless network, students are required to remain in their vehicle at all times, and no other floors of the structure will be accessible. Charging stations or other classroom conveniences are not available.<\/p>\n
Wi-Fi access is only offered to Palomar College students between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
