Gate proceeds from Palomar College\u2019s Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men\u2019s \/women\u2019s basketball double-header on Friday, Feb. 15 will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The special fundraiser, to be held at the Palomar Dome,\u00a0 is part of a joint statewide effort initiated by the California Community College Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Basketball Coaches Associations.<\/p>\n

Opening the event will be Coach John O\u2019Neill\u2019s conference-leading men\u2019s team versus San Diego City College at 5 p.m., followed by coach Leigh Marshall\u2019s resurgent Comet women\u2019s team versus inter-county-rival Grossmont at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are asking our community to help us fill the Dome for this very special event,\u201d said Director of Athletics Scott Cathcart. \u201cIt provides a perfect opportunity for our basketball teams and our institution to interface with the community in a cause that truly deserves our support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Funds from similar events at community colleges throughout the state will be pooled into one large donation from the CCCAA Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s basketball coaches.\u00a0 A presentation of the donation to representatives of the American Cancer Society is planned for the men\u2019s and women\u2019s state championships at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento in March.<\/p>\n
