Additional help will defray the costs of remote learning, course materials and heightened expenses during the COVID-19 health crisis.<\/p>\n
SAN MARCOS \u2014 On Friday, June 5, Palomar College distributed $702,000 in federal grant money to 936 of its students as part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in March.<\/p>\n
The funds were provided to help cover the cost of computers and other technology necessary to engage in remote learning; course materials; additional food or housing expenses; and other expenses due to the closure of Palomar College\u2019s main campus and education centers. Students enrolled at least half-time, or six units, during the spring semester were given priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want our students to receive all the help they can get during these difficult and unsettling times, and these federal grants are simply another way for us to ensure the success of our students,\u201d said Acting Superintendent\/President Dr. Jack Kahn.<\/p>\n
To be eligible for an economic assistance grant of up to $750, students need to have been enrolled in at least one credit class during the spring semester at Palomar, making satisfactory academic progress and eligible for FAFSA assistance.<\/p>\n
