This year\u2019s holiday fundraising effort\u2014in which student volunteers staffed the phones to get the word out on Tuesday, Dec. 4\u2014yielded more than $68,000 to support scholarships and key student programs.<\/p>\n
SAN MARCOS \u2014 On Tuesday, Nov. 27\u2014also known around the U.S. as \u201cGiving Tuesday\u201d\u2014the Palomar College Foundation raised $68,000 for students, eclipsing last year\u2019s figures by $20,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe response this year was overwhelming,\u201d said the foundation\u2019s Executive Director, Stacy Rungaitis. \u201cEvery dollar of these generous donations will be used to help students pursue their education and their dreams right here at Palomar. Thank you to our wonderful community for their generosity this holiday season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Giving Tuesday is a nationwide fundraising movement celebrated in the U.S. on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and described on www.givingtuesday.org as \u201cA Global Day of Giving.\u201d Associated with the \u201cwidely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday\u2026 #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.\u201d<\/p>\n
