Enrollments are up across Palomar Community College District, as fall semester numbers exceed expectations at Fallbrook\u2019s North Education Center and the South Education Center in Rancho Bernardo.<\/p>\n

NORTH COUNTY \u2014 The number of Full-Time Equivalent students enrolled at Palomar College in the current semester rose by approximately 2 percent, compared with fall 2017, district officials announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

Overall, the district\u2019s head count\u2014the total number of individuals enrolled\u2014also grew by about 1 percent year over year.<\/p>\n

Accounting for some of the growth, the two new Palomar College Education Centers, in Rancho Bernardo and Fallbrook, delivered impressive numbers in their second semester of operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust three months after opening, Palomar\u2019s two new campuses have been hugely successful in drawing new students,\u201d said Superintendent\/President Dr. Joi Lin Blake. \u201cWith the Rancho Bernardo and Fallbrook locations available, we are better positioned to serve all of the communities within our district, and more students are choosing Palomar College.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the semester began in Rancho Bernardo, some 1,226 students were enrolled in 95 classes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese first weeks of the fall semester have proven that a Palomar College campus in Rancho Bernardo will be a benefit to the communities in the southern portion of our district\u2014and will ultimately engage more students,\u201d said South Education Center Director Tom Medel.<\/p>\n

In Fallbrook, enrollment reached nearly 1,100 students in 60 classes, with many students arriving from the Temecula Valley.<\/p>\n

\u201cI live in Temecula, so it\u2019s just more convenient for me to go to the campus in Fallbrook than to drive all the way to San Marcos,\u201d said 24-year-old Maria Esquivel, who had just stepped out of biology class at the Fallbrook center on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Esquivel, who is pursuing her degree in nursing, said she works an hour north of Temecula, so if it hadn\u2019t been for the North Education Center opening in Fallbrook, she probably would have put off starting college. But instead of delaying, she was able to start classes when the center opened in June, and is in her second semester there now.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve made the campus very accessible,\u201d she said. \u201cI feel like because of this campus, I love school. At first I was scared what the environment was going to be like, but it\u2019s been really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
