Encinitas based Leichtag Foundation will match up to $10,000 raised in crowdfunding campaign to help feed students at risk of food insecurity. Palomar\u2019s new Anita and Stan Maag Food & Nutrition Center will open later this year.<\/p>\n
Pictured above: The Palomar College Student Services team at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Anita and Stan Maag Food & Nutrition Center in March.<\/em><\/p>\n SAN MARCOS, CA \u2015 As part of a campaign to address student food insecurity, the\u00a0Palomar College Foundation\u00a0is partnering with the Leichtag Foundation to raise money to assist Palomar\u2019s food pantry.\u00a0Every dollar donated will provide four meals to students at Palomar.<\/p>\n By gathering donations from the community, Palomar will be able to help students\u00a0 lower their risk of food insecurity by providing food & gift cards. Supporting students who need access to more healthy food has direct benefits in the classroom, helping them focus on succeeding in school.<\/p>\n The Leichtag Foundation, a philanthropic organization based in Encinitas, will match up to $10,000 in funds raised.\u00a0So far the campaign has raised $2,900 and all funds raised will go directly to the Palomar College Food Pantry.<\/p>\n (Make sure to choose “Food Pantry” under Donation Category.)<\/p>\n In addition to partnering with local food banks and CalFresh,\u00a0Palomar has initiated a number of programs to provide students with free food, such as the food pantry and weekly\u00a0#PalomarEatsNow event on Thursdays.<\/p>\nDonate to the Food Pantry here.<\/a><\/h2>\n
