{"id":2081,"date":"2018-01-02T11:55:49","date_gmt":"2018-01-02T19:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/news\/?p=2081"},"modified":"2025-05-14T13:40:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T20:40:07","slug":"enlightened-lens-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/news\/enlightened-lens-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Enlightened Lens&#8217; showcases student work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"open-para\">Long-running photography exhibition at the Escondido Municipal Gallery incorporates wide range of styles, methods.<\/p>\n<p>ESCONDIDO \u2014 Across a maze of brightly-lit walls in the Escondido Municipal Gallery, the photographs tell a story of hard work and long hours in the lab\u2014but also the joy of discovery.<\/p>\n<p>The annual Palomar College student photography show, \u201cEnlightened Lens,\u201d arrived this month at the downtown gallery, featuring 70 photographs from 45 students who studied and produced images at Palomar in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first show I\u2019ve been in, and just seeing my pictures hung next to everybody else\u2019s art is awesome,\u201d said Tristin D&#8217;Ambrosi, a second-year photography student. \u201cEven seeing them in frames is just unbelievable. Photo courtesy of Emily Kim.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><strong>Enlightened Lens photography exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Jan. 6. Free admission. Escondido Municipal Gallery, 262 E. Grand Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>In mid-January, the show will travel to the Hearth Gallery in San Marcos and remain open to the public from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of February. The Hearth Gallery is located in the community center at 3 Civic Center Drive, San Marcos.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Emily Kim, one of Cosentino\u2019s students whose photograph was chosen for the \u201cEnlightened Lens\u201d poster, said that she appreciated the opportunity to \u201chang\u201d her work in a public gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonna\u2019s done an amazing job,\u201d said Kim. \u201cTo have a juried show like this is pretty great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An architect by trade, Kim said she takes one photography class every semester: \u201cPalomar College has a darkroom facility, so you can still shoot film and make your own prints. Photos by Tom Pfingsten.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cosentino said the idea of the exhibit has always been to represent the diversity of student photographers at Palomar. In keeping with that theme, there are at least a dozen different processes and methods of development in the show, including some that are highly unique and experimental.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show is a mix of absolute, first-semester beginning students \u2026 all the way up to students who have been here for a couple of years, are advanced and well-versed with their medium,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 1990, the annual exhibition was held in various locations around North County before settling at the Municipal Gallery 12 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re lovely people and the space is just gorgeous,\u201d Cosentino said of the gallery in downtown Escondido. \u201cWe have two beautiful rooms there, plus extra walls. The gallery is wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year, the show was judged by Palomar College professors Cosentino, Amy Caterina and Judith Preston.
