SAN MARCOS \u2013 \u00a0With the Palomar College fall semester scheduled to begin August 18, a number of open classes are still available in a variety of subject areas.<\/p>\n
A sampling of open courses includes: accounting, American Indian Studies, administration of justice, anthropology,\u00a0 art,\u00a0 American Sign Language, astronomy, auto technology, aviation, biology, business, cabinet and furniture technology, child development, chemistry, cinema, counseling, Chicano studies, computer science, dental assisting, digital broadcast arts, dance, and economics.<\/p>\n
More areas with available classes are emergency medical education, English, engineering, technical theatre, English as a Second Language (ESL), fashion, fire academy, French, graphic communications, geography, German, health, history, humanities, Italian, Japanese, journalism, kinesiology, legal studies, mathematics, music, nursing, oceanography, philosophy, photography, political science, psychology, reading, world religions, sociology, Spanish, speech, theatre arts, upholstery, welding, water technology and zoology.<\/p>\n
Palomar College administrators have added nearly 150 class sections in order to accommodate student needs.<\/p>\n
In addition to added course options, students will find newly-opened facilities. The brand new Humanities Building, centrally located on the San Marcos campus was open for summer classes, and will provide a state-of-the-art home base for hundreds of classes this fall. The 90,000-square-foot, three-story building houses the following disciplines: English\/humanities, English as a Second Language, reading, speech\/forensics\/American Sign Language, world languages and journalism. An official Grand Opening ceremony is scheduled for the fall 2014 semester.<\/p>\n
The College continues to move forward with new construction, made possible by the $694 million Proposition M general obligation bond, passed by the voters in November, 2006. Ground has been broken for a new baseball field on the north side of campus, and ground will soon be broken on a brand new child development center. The College will also be starting construction on an extensive remodel of the existing \u201cA\u201d Building, which will provide a new Veterans Services area to help serve the nearly 5,000 Palomar College veteran students and their dependents.<\/p>\n
California community college fees remain an affordable higher education option at $46 a unit. Palomar College offers more than 300 associate degree and certificate programs, and offers classes in a variety of formats, including traditional, online, video and Fast Track.
