SAN MARCOS (June 3, 2014) – Palomar College officials announced the appointment of Shayla Sivert as the Deanof Languages and Literature. Her appointment was confirmed by the Governing Board at its May 27 meeting.

Sivert has been a full-time, tenured faculty member in the Department of English as a Second Language (ESL) since 1988.Prior to that, she lived and taught in the Middle East.

Sivert’s academic preparation includes a B.A. and an M.A. in Linguistics/ESL from CSU, Fresno. Her department leadership has included being a department chair for two years and serving as the ESL Program Coordinator for several years.

Since January 2012, Sivert has served Palomar College as the Interim Dean, Languages and Literature. She has providedleadership and advocacy for academic departments and instructional support programs including English as a Second Language,English and Humanities, World Languages, Speech/American Sign Language, Reading Services, and the Teaching and Learning Centers.She was Co-President of the Palomar Faculty Federation for one and a half years.
