SAN MARCOS (October 2, 2012) — Palomar College Governing Board Trustee Paul McNamara is shown addressing the audience at a press conference held aboard the USS Midway Museum on Oct. 2. The press conference was sponsored by the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges Association (SDICCCA) to discuss the colleges’ response to the recent surge in enrollments for veterans and active duty military students, and their dependents.

Palomar College Superintendent/President Robert Deegan joined McNamara at the event along with Governing Board Vice President Rose Marie Dishman, Ph.D. College leaders representing the region’s six community colleges, veterans, students and community members were welcomed by Mac McLaughlin, CEO and President of the USS Midway Museum. Cindy Miles, Ph.D., Chancellor of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District served as moderator of the discussion. Speakers included Constance M. Carroll, Ph.D., Chancellor, San Diego Community College District and SDICCCA President; Justin Dile, USD Student, U.S. Army Reserves and Grossmont College Alumnus; McNamara; Melinda Nish, Ed.D, Superintendent/President, Southwestern College, SDICCCA Vice President; and  Francisco Rodriguez, Ph.D., Superintendent/President, MiraCosta College.
