SAN MARCOS — The Palomar Community College District (PCCD) is taking steps to fill the Governing Board seat of Trustee Area 2, after the President of the Board, Christian Garcia, announced his resignation on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Garcia is stepping down after being appointed to the Escondido City Council, District 3.

“On behalf of the College, I want to thank Trustee Garcia for his steadfast leadership on the Governing Board, where he championed student success, provided great strategy and demonstrated a commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship,” said Palomar’s Superintendent/President, Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey. “His departure is a tremendous loss, and we wish him all of the best in his new role as a City Councilmember.”

The PCCD Governing Board meets on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 and is expected to issue a resolution to either appoint a Provisional Trustee or call for a special election to replace Garcia. Trustee Area 2 represents Escondido and the eastern third of the Highway 78 corridor, and applicants will need to live within the borders of that area.

Further information, including the process timeline and application materials, will be released once determined by the Governing Board at its meeting on February 14.
