SAN MARCOS, CA (November 14, 2014) – Palomar College officials are shown at a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new baseball field held at the College in San Marcos on Friday, Nov. 14. Pictured are from left, Palomar Community College District Governing Board Trustee Nancy Chadwick and Superintendent/President Robert P. Deegan.

Deegan officiated at the event, which featured comments from Trustee Chadwick, Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services Adrian Gonzales, and Director of Palomar College Athletics Scott Cathcart. Palomar College Head Baseball Coach Cord “Buck” Taylor gave the keynote address.  His comments included recognition of Palomar’s former Head Coach, Bob Vetter, along with several former members of the Palomar baseball team who were in attendance. Many have gone on to play for distinguished colleges and professional baseball teams.

The new baseball facility will include a natural turf field with a subsurface drainage system, artificial turf foul territory, bleacher seating for approximately 300 with additional upper seating on a grass slope, seven full batting cages, bullpens for both teams, an elevated press box with PA system, and designated warm up area for visiting teams.

Built with funds from Proposition M, a bond measure approved by voters in November 2006, the field is expected to be completed in late spring 2015.

In addition to the ceremonial groundbreaking, and photographs with different groups including local government and education officials, the grand opening event included a lunch of traditional baseball stadium fare, including hot dogs, lemonade, peanuts, and more.
