San Marcos, CA (June 10, 2015) – The Palomar Community College Governing Board approved the appointment of Daniel Sourbeer as the Interim Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, Instruction (VPI) at their June 9 board meeting.
Sourbeer has served as Dean, Mathematics and the Natural and Health Sciences (MNHS) since 2013. During his time at Palomar College, he has held a number of leadership positions, including: Interim Dean of Mathematics and the Natural and Health Sciences; Life Sciences Department Chair; Site Coordinator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Bridges to the Future Grant; and member of the Palomar College Faculty Senate (where he received the 2003 “Gift of Time” award).
He joined the faculty at Palomar in 1992, as a professor in the Life Sciences Department. He was a key contributor to the development of a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant that Palomar was awarded in October 2010. Additional Palomar achievements include program and facilities growth through the construction of the STEM Center, the Palomar Planetarium, and the Mathematics Learning Center remodel; the coordination of five grants totaling more than $1.6 million annually; and program development, review and planning of a number of new degrees in the MNHS Division.
Sourbeer holds an associate’s degree from Long Beach City College, a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in Biology from the California State University Long Beach.

Sourbeer lives with his wife in Valley Center, California. The couple has two adult daughters.
