On March 8, the Palomar College baseball field was officially named Bob Vetter Field  in honor of the late Coach Bob Vetter. Coach Vetter served as the Head Baseball Coach for 25 years, compiling a 542-393 record, guiding the Palomar Comets to 8 conference championships.  Inducted into the California Community College Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007, his legacy extends beyond the field, shaping countless students through his unwavering commitment to education, integrity, and the necessary life skills for success.

With the support of Bob’s children, Robby Vetter and Emily Vetter, along with coaches, alumni, and family members, a campaign was launched to celebrate Coach Vetter’s enduring legacy. Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors, the campaign not only secured the naming of the field but also established the Bob Vetter Endowment, to support the Palomar College baseball program in perpetuity.

“Coach Vetter made a profound impact on Palomar College that goes beyond just wins and losses. From the day he joined Palomar College as a Professor in 1977, until his retirement in 2015, Coach Vetter realized his purpose as a coach was a combination of providing strong leadership and being a positive mentor,” shared Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services, Nick Mata.  “When Coach Vetter passed away suddenly in January 2022, the impact of his loss was swiftly felt among his Palomar College family, the San Diego and California baseball community, former players, students, coaches, faculty, and his family and friends.”
